Lore
The Dosimetry-class was commissioned following a series of incidents involving unshielded radioactive freight aboard standard Solarian freighters, the details of which the Confederacy has not released but which were sufficient to convene a nine-month design committee. The committee mandated triple-redundant lead-composite cargo bays, level-six automated hazard monitoring, and shield capacity sufficient to satisfy the certification requirements of seven separate regulatory bodies — four of which disagreed on what "safe" meant and all of which had to be satisfied individually. The result is the most extensively documented isotope transport in Confederacy service. The Confederacy distributes the certification documentation freely and considers this transparency. Dock workers at every port that accepts Dosimetry freight remain cautious. This is also considered acceptable.
