Lore
The Grand Transit was not designed to be the largest carrier in the galaxy. That distinction emerged from the engineering specifications, which the Federation accepted without revision because the economics were correct. Ninety bay slots means three capital-class ships — dreadnoughts, titans, fleet carriers — transported as a single unit. The Federation built it because the alternative was capital-class pilots spending three weeks on ferry transit after every major deployment, which at those hourly rates represented a significant opportunity cost. The Grand Transit makes that a single afternoon. A single Grand Transit movement recovers its operating cost in fewer than four runs. The Federation has performed this calculation. They consider it unremarkable.
