Palimpsest

A palimpsest is a manuscript written over an erased earlier text. The Palimpsest-class applies this principle to electromagnetic radiation, reading the ghost impressions of signals that were encrypted, scrambled, or deliberately destroyed. The sensor arrays detect information that technically no longer exists. Other empires' intelligence services have spent considerable resources trying to understand how the Palimpsest intercepts communications that were never sent in the first place. The Collective's only public comment: "All information exists. Some has simply been forgotten."
