Solarian pathfinder doctrine measures success in margins: percent of fuel reserve unspent on arrival, percent of bearings within drift tolerance, percent of refined fuel that hits the tank rather than venting to vacuum. The Praecursor is the hull built to those margins. The pathfinder drive plots galactic bearings with confidence intervals attached to every heading; the integrated gas harvester feeds a hydrogen burner that drips fuel directly into the tank; the eleven-hundred-unit reserve is sized so that even a wasted refining stage still gets a careful pilot home. Pathfinder Corps certification on a Praecursor takes four years of simulator hours and a real-coordinates qualifying drift the Corps does not publish details of. The Bureau of Deep Survey reports the casualty rate annually and considers any year under three percent a success.
